Delhi government has opened applications for the SHRESHTA (Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas) |
What Is the SHRESHTA Scheme?
Launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the SHRESHTA scheme seeks to bridge the educational gap faced by SC students. By facilitating admissions into CBSE-affiliated private residential schools, the program ensures access to a nurturing academic environment from Class 9 to 12 — completely free of cost for selected students.
Under this initiative, the central government bears the entire cost of tuition, boarding, lodging, and other school-related expenses, making it a fully-funded opportunity.
Who Can Apply?
The Delhi government is inviting applications from SC students currently studying in Class 8, who come from families with an annual income below ₹2.5 lakh. Eligible candidates will be selected through the National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA (NETS), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Key Benefits of SHRESHTA
-
Free residential education from Class 9 to 12 in premier CBSE schools
-
Holistic academic development in a well-supported environment
-
Focus on mainstreaming marginalized students into high-quality education systems
-
Enhanced career prospects through structured schooling and mentorship
How to Apply?
Students and guardians can visit the official website of the NTA (https://shreshta.nta.nic.in) for detailed guidelines and application forms. The deadline for registration, exam dates, and counseling rounds will be announced shortly, so students are advised to check the portal regularly.
A Step Toward Inclusive Education
The SHRESHTA scheme represents a meaningful step by the Delhi government and central authorities to create equal educational opportunities for SC students. By addressing economic and social barriers, it empowers students with the tools they need to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.
